The "tapes" for this book are not cloth tape, but Canson Mi-Teintes drawing paper, in the same aubergine color I've been using for endpapers. I wanted to be sure the tapes would be strong enough to carry their weight, so I beefed them up by gluing them to a layer of black Tyvek. In the following picture you can see the first two signatures being sewn, and a sample of the tape on the left with paper side and Tyvek side showing.
In between the three tapes are two stations of link (coptic) stitch, and at the head and foot of the I've used kettle stitch. A close-up of the spine:
After the sewing was finished, I glued the loose ends of the tapes to the outside of the covers. Holes were pre-punched for reinforcement x-stitches.
I thought it needed a button closure.
