Klezmer Musicians
I love reading illustrators' blogs, and one of my favorites is Learning Daily, the work of Cindy Woods. Cindy treats her subjects with affection and respect, and her drawings are just so darned good! One day I saw a drawing she had done at a Klezmer concert of a duo called "My Son the Doctor." Here is her original drawing.
I immediately contacted her and asked her permission to use the drawing as the basis of a new weaving, and she graciously consented. Let me emphasize that this particular weaving will not be sold and is for my own personal enjoyment.
Here is the finished weaving. As you can see, I added color to the musicians' shirts, built a floor for them to stand on, and added a background of Yiddish text. The weave structure is lampas, and the pattern yarns are handspun wools. I really love the piece and I hope I have been faithful to the humor and spirit of the original. Thank you, Cindy.
