An exhibition of crafts with the unifying theme of Text is on my horizon. I've submitted an application, and regardless of whether I'm accepted, I thought a piece based on text would be an interesting project. So here goes. I've borrowed my artist's statement from my computer files and layered it in Photoshop in two different text sizes, then overlaid that with a silhouette of my portrait. The three translucent layers interact in interesting ways, and the final file has been reduced to six colors, with weaves applied. Here's what it looks like so far:
This is the third piece I've woven on this warp without cutting off and retying, so all the work of the past week is rolled up on the cloth beam. The good thing is that I'll save time and warp, but the bad thing is I'm getting really impatient to see the work up on the wall.
