An interesting package arrived in the mail yesterday from Neki. It contained two fabric samples, one of which is shown above. The fabric is gossamer light. The background construction is a rib weave, in what appears to be plain weave with alternating heavy and light wefts on a very fine, very dense warp. The pattern stripes, which run in the warp direction, are a double weave in which some of the warp threads form a second layer, the remaining threads continuing in rib weave. The upper layer of the double sections is quite sheer, and puckers up, which leads me to think that this fabric was woven with two warp beams. Also, the double weave sections form a subtle pattern—the stripes are not monolithic—so I assume this fabric is jacquard woven. A detail at approximately 12x magnification is shown below; click to enlarge to full size. Thanks, Neki!
