Another archaeological find, of sorts.
I'm having to clear a lot of stuff out of corners and other hiding places to make way for some renovations this week. This very patient rigid heddle loom has been waiting for me for a long time, and I wove on it for an hour or so in hopes of bringing this warp to an end. I'm almost there. It's a combination of commercially spun wool/silk (a knitting yarn, actually) and my own handspun carbonised bamboo. You will recognize the horizontal stripe that results from end-and-end and pick-and-pick color rotations (the reverse side has vertical stripes). Right now, under tension, it looks like window screening, but it will become a nice, soft fabric after washing, I'm sure.
Like most weavers, I have projects stashed away in every conceivable corner. Emptying out this room is not a trivial matter! There might be a squirrel gene in my DNA.
