A summer cotton blanket I recently purchased set some wheels in motion. It's a very lightweight, gauzy blanket, three layers of plain weave with intermittent stitching resembling quilting. I thought it would be fun to try some layered gauzy weaves on my current loom setups. Here's a jacquard sample. The background is four layers of plain weave, and the accents are 8-end satins, both warp & weft effect, and a compatible granite weave. The satins & granites, being single layer structures, tie all the layers together. Click to enlarge.
The structures don't all beat down at the same rate, so it's important to destribute the design areas evenly across the cloth. The four layers of plain weave tend to pouf out, as you would expect of a layered weave, and the single layer structures bite down into furrows.
As all these structures repeat in an 8x8 matrix, I'll be able to use these for dobby work, too. Any multiple of 8 shafts will do.
