On a whim I bought 4 ounces of carbon fiber about two years ago, and spun it up into a two-ply yarn. It's charcoal gray, and the yarn feels a lot like Tencel. I warped it up end & end with some silk/cotton knitting yarn from my stash, on the rigid heddle loom, and there it sat for a very long time, a UFO*.
This week I finally got around to finishing it. The weft is a straight alternation of the same two yarns. It's like a log cabin weave without the blocks—vertical stripes on one side and horizontal stripes on the reverse. The fabric is delightfully soft and drapy, with lots of visual texture. This is a great summer shawl. I think I'll keep it.
*UFO: an unfinished object.
