First, some housekeeping details. I've only just discovered that there are a number of you who have expressed an interest in my Amalgamation monograph (see sidebar) by commenting on my blog and I did not pick up these messages. Typepad doesn't pass these along to me in my email, which they used to do. Sorry about that! If you are one of the folks I missed, and still want a copy, please email me privately at aschlein[at]att[dot]net, making appropriate substitutions in the address, and I will complete the order. Thanks for your understanding.
Now on to studio news. Another warp is coming to an end. This one is mostly utilitarian fabrics for a garment project.
A Monstera came to live with me a few months ago, and I watch it carefully, as my past record with houseplants is abysmal. I have vowed to do better in the future. The next three pictures, taken on three successive days, document the emergence of a new leaf. It starts out as a tightly furled cigar shape, and slowly opens.
I photograph it every day, so expect to see more from this beauty.
Outdoors the sky is more interesting than the ground these days, and I generally take a sky picture on my walk. The following example was yesterday's catch, and it's followed by my Photoshop doodlings. Please indulge me in this.
Now on to my book report. I just finished reading Siri Hustvedt's The Blazing World, about an underappreciated female artist who recruits three male artists to show her work as if it were their own, and their resulting success, which fuels the action in this dense, moving novel. A difficult read, but worth it.
Also read: Meet Me at the Museum, by Anne Youngson. This is Youngson's first novel, written when she was seventy years old. It's in epistolary form and an upbeat tale of two people trying to change the direction their lives have taken. I loved this one. An excellent choice if you need a good hug today.
