A couple of days ago I came to the end of the warp on my dobby loom. The bitter end. I don't think Spider Woman herself could have woven another pick on this warp.
I cut the cloth off the beam, cut it up into six towels, hemmed them, and washed, dried, and ironed them. Here they are stacked up and ready for new homes. The pattern is pretty hard to see in a monochromatic color scheme, but I think the red selvedges look pretty cute here.
Now here's the stupid part. I designed a new 16 shaft warp, but the heddle counts on some of the shafts were short. I hate switching heddles on this loom, so I shuffled the draft around to take advantage of the existing heddle count. I thought it would save me some time. The shaft shuffling and resulting adjustments of the draft took me around four hours. Then I made a new warp and started threading the loom. As it turned out, I had made a mistake in the shuffling, and still had to move some heddles. That took about five minutes!
Lesson learned? Don't be such a smartypants.
And get up and take a walk once in a while.
