I just heard the sad news that Peter Collingwood died yesterday. I can't think of another person who has been so influential and innovative in weaving in our generation. His generosity to other weavers is legendary. I treasure our recent email correspondence - I had told him I was enduring the July heat wave in SC by watching the Tour de France on TV, and he replied with characteristic dry humor, "It is always interesting to learn what other weavers do when not at a loom. I see you watch those muscular men straining up and down hills in France. Not my choice if I was sitting in hot humidity as you are! I'd prefer a ski race or ice-skating. Myself I am practicing my concertina assiduously…"
According to his son, Jason, Peter died in the place he loved, his workshop.
To use one of his favorite puns, "Peter, you loom large."
